"Russia existential threat to US and allies"
A top US military official says Russia is an existential threat to Washington and its European allies.
Commander of US troops in Europe, Philip Breedlove, accused Russia of choosing to be an adversary and seeking to exert influence over its neighboring states. The head of the US European Command further said American efforts to cultivate Moscow as a partner have failed. Breedlove underlined that Washington needs additional resources in Europe to counter a "resurgent, aggressive Russia". The top general said he asked for a substantial boost in resources for Europe in the budget for the 2017 fiscal year. Breedlove was addressing members of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
